A Harvest of Briefings, Meetings and Get-Togethers in September

Harvest is a time where we celebrate God’s generosity in the goodness and abundance of creation. We also share from our abundance with those who are in need.

Harvest Fast Day is one of our most important events of the year. We ask people to miss a meal or eat lightly, to pray for those in poverty and to donate to our work. Parishes and schools hold collections and send the donations on to us.

We organise local meetings to ensure that all our parish volunteers are up to date, know all about the stories and situations behind Fast Day and have a chance to explore the topic with other local volunteers. It gives us a great chance to meet and hear news from churches and local communities.

This year Harvest Fast Day will focus on our work in El Salvador, quite fitting considering that it’s 100 years since Blessed Oscar Romero’s birth. We worked with Blessed Romero, not least in rebuilding his radio station when it was destroyed by his enemies.

Fantastic Fund Raising Concert in Farncombe

Eduardo Niebla

Eduardo Niebla in concert

Many thanks to Julian Lewry our CAFOD parish volunteer at St Edmund’s parish in Godalming for organising a superb concert by Eduardo Niebla an amazing Spanish guitarist at St John’s Church, Farncombe on Friday 7th October. The audience were enthralled with Eduardo’s skilful guitar playing and spellbinding flamenco jazz compositions.

Julain Lewry told us ” It was  an amazing concert and many of the audience commented on  Eduardo’s and his accompanier Matthew Robinson’s outstanding performance as they left.”

Many thanks to all those who supported the concert which raised an fantastic amount of £700 for CAFOD. Julian would like to thank his team of volunteers Mary Waight, Damian Wheeler and Ben Lewry for their help with setting up, running the bar and clearing away afterwards.

Don’t forget that Julian has organised another fund raising concert in aid of CAFOD next Saturday 15th October at Windlesham Club, when Any Colour You Like will be performing the music of Pink Floyd. So do come and along and support it. Jo Lewry
