Many thanks to Mary Lee our CAFOD parish volunteer at Christ Prince of Peace, Weybridge for inviting me to their monthly CAFOD soup lunch on Friday 5th May. This month the donations for the lunch were going to the East Africa Crisis Appeal. A simple lunch of soup, bread, cheese and fruit was provided. There was a choice of three different soups all made by parishioners which were delicious- I tried them all ! The artisan bread had been donated by the Good taste Bakery in Camberley and they also supplied extra bread and tray bakes which were sold and raised over £70. About twenty people attended, with pupils from Year 4 class at St Charles Borromeo Primary helping out by waiting on the tables and washing up afterwards. So many thanks to them.
After the lunch I was introduced to Alan, who has been in the parish for over thirty years and who always attends the Friday soup lunches. He told me that he comes each month because he is a longstanding CAFOD supporter and he enjoys the chance to meet up with other parishioners over a simple lunch .
It was lovely to chat to the parishioners and thank them for their generous support of the Lent fast day and East Africa appeal and I hope that they enjoyed the lunch as much as I did. Many thanks to those who made the soup, provided the food and attended the lunch as about £200 was raised. Also special thanks to Year 4 pupils for all their help especially with the washing up their parents would have been very impressed! Jo Lewry
