Salubrious Soup at Sacred Heart, Hove

The Sacred Heart Parish in Hove celebrated CAFOD’s Lent Fast Day with a traditional and welcoming soup lunch on Fast Day itself, the 10th of March.

CAFOD volunteers Glenda, Heidi and Sheila arranged the soup, with other willing helpers, as a way of bringing the parish community together and supporting our work with people in poverty throughout the world.

Heidi spoke to the gathering to share Florence’s story, of how life was tough before she learned how to become a fish farmer. Our partners, the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary provided the training, tools and some starter fish and now life has been transformed for Florence, her children and her community.

Heidi said,u ‘It was a lively chatty afternoon and people seemed to enjoy themselves and the soup. People came and thanked us for our hard work and they seemed to love Florence’s story especially that she was given a means to help herself’.

Fr Kevin Dring, Priest of the Parish, offered thanks for the work of CAFOD and for the efforts of the volunteers who made and served the soup (carrot and coriander, tomato and leek and potato) and also made the event possible.

Our sincere thanks go to the Parish of The Sacred Heart for their tireless support.
