Many thanks to Mary Barrett our CAFOD parish volunteer at The Parish of the Nativity of Our Lord who organised a Harvest supper in aid of CAFOD on Saturday 1st October. Mary told us about it…
“Following the 6.30pm Mass last Saturday, Nativity of the Lord parishioners gathered in the parish hall for the annual Harvest Supper. The tables were laid for 60 adults and 10 children, and they were beautifully decorated with flowers. Everyone was hungry and soon the queue grew for supper. Jacket potatoes, a huge pan of chilli and baked beans provided the fillings. Then there were delicious salads to fill the plates. More and more people arrived and another table had to be set up.
There was a well stocked licensed bar and musicians accompanied the diners. Anne St John Hall played the piano, the 4 Chicks sang beautifully and Tomas Hobden played the cello with skill and confidence. Father Chris Spain managed the huge number of raffle prizes with great humour.
Then it was time for pudding and what a spread appeared – crumbles and pies packed with fruit, jelly and chocolate cake. Everyone enjoyed a delicious meal and a time to talk to old and new friends.”
At the end of the supper Mary introduced the CAFOD Harvest Appeal and explained about the Hands On project in the Altiplano, Bolivia which is helping mothers like Nicanora learn new farming techniques so that she can grow vegetables for her family and ensure that her children have healthy and nutritious food to eat.
Mary would like to thank all those who provided food for the supper and helped with setting up and clearing away , and we would like to thank the parishioners for supporting this event and giving so generously to CAFOD at the moment over £400 has been raised and more is coming in. So many, many thanks for your generosity.
Please consider getting Hands On with the people in the Altiplano Bolivia.
