Harvest Fast Day Gatherings. Join us and other volunteers in a location near you to hear the story.

Harvest is around the corner is harvest – a time for reaping the rewards of our labour and celebrating nature’s abundance and God’s loving provision.

Many churches and schools celebrate the occasion in different ways but all can take part in CAFOD’s Harvest Fast Day when we give up a meal or something similar, hold in our prayers those who go without food or other basics and donate money to help our work.

For CAFOD, harvest is a great opportunity to tell the catholic community about our work, about what we’re doing with the money they entrust to us, and to ask them to join in our mission of creating a world which resembles the Kingdom of God where all can flourish.

Our Parish Volunteers and team members are such an important part of this. They help remind their church about God’s beautiful gift of creation, they inspire their fellow parishioners to share what they have with those in need and they make it possible for us to continue our work throughout the world.

We always do our best to support our parish volunteers and those who and one of the ways we do this is to have a series of local meetings over a cup of tea (occasionally cake or croissants too) and let people know about the story of Fast Day, what materials are available and also give a general update about CAFOD and answer whatever questions people may have. People normally enjoy the meetings and appreciate the opportunity to get together. Why not come along?

The list of remaining meetings is below. Please do come to your nearest or come on whichever day you can make. It’s also useful to know you’re coming so do let us know. You can contact us at A&B volunteer Centre on 01483 898866 or email arundelandbrighton@cafod.org.uk Please do bring a friend or anyone you think might be interested in getting involved.

Crawley – Saturday 24th September 10 for 10:30am – 12noon. Breakfast Update. The Friary, Haslett Avenue West, RH10 1HR. Croissants and coffee etc provided, just bring yourself, any friends and an appetite for changing the world (and also for croissants and coffee etc). We will be joined by Winston Casaclang from our supporter care team and Tania Haque, Gender Advisor in our International Department who will share her experience of Bolivia.

For those on the northern border if you can’t make our briefings, there is also one in Sutton – Thursday 22nd September at Holy Family Catholic Church, SM1 1QT from 10-11 am. This will be hosted by the Southwark team.

We can’t emphasise enough how good it is to see our parish volunteers, team members and those who might like to help out and how people enjoy the chance to gather together and share a cup of tea and ideas and experiences from their own parish.

If you would like to join our team of parish volunteers then please do get in touch as you are more than welcome.

We’ve started our Harvest Fast Day meetings with the great people of Mayfield, Woking and Redhill and Epsom Deaneries but we still have a good few to go in Esher, Chichester, Battle, Guildford and Crawley – see below. All welcome.
