Parishioners from Our Lady of Sorrows, Effingham and The Holy Spirit, Fetcham have been working hard this Lent to raise money to ensure that girls in Uganda have access to a near by, clean water supply and do not have to spend many hours collecting water as Proscovia used to before her village pump was mended.
During Lent they organised several different events to support CAFOD’s appeal and give the gift of water. They raised just under a £2000 through the Lent fast day collection envelopes. A further £1000 was raised at a quiz night, £70 from a cake sale and finally £700 was donated at a coffee morning held on 8th March which 35 people attended. So in total (including other donations) over £5000 has been raised during Lent which is an AMAZING amount especially as this will be doubled by the government through match funding. Many thanks to the CAFOD volunteers Claire Fernandes, Mary and Mike Agius, Joanne Matthews and Donna Evans for organising these events and to the parishioners for supporting them so generously.
