‘On Valentine’s day, at the request of our local Christian churches, St. Pius X church, Merrow, Guildford, hosted a Middle Eastern meal to raise funds for Syrian refugees.

‘A year ago we hosted a Curry supper during the week of Prayer for Christian unity and the members of the other churches enjoyed it so much they asked us to host another curry supper. However it was decided that we could serve a Middle Eastern Meal and raise funds for Syrian refugees.

‘A delicious 3 course meal was planned and prepared by Sharmalene and her team of helpers and served to 78 people from St. Pius X and the local Christian churches.

‘The donations (mostly Gift Aided) and proceeds from a raffle, raised an amazing £1,945:95 for CAFOD’s work with Syrian refugees. A donation of £55 from St. Edward’s Sutton Park brought the total to £2,000.95.’

Our thanks go to Steve, Sharmalene and her team of helpers and the generous people of the Parish. For more information about the situation in Syria and the work of our partners please do see http://www.cafod.org.uk/News/Emergencies-news/Syria-Q-A
